Saskatchewan Expands Partnership With Red Cross

In times of large emergencies, the City of Lloydminster will now have extra help dealing with displaced residents. The added aid is all thanks to a newly expanded partnership between the government of Saskatchewan and the Canadian Red Cross.

The three year service agreement will help increase the Ministry of Emergency Social Services' ability to meet the basic needs of families and individuals who have been forced from their homes.

Linda Korney, Manager of Information in Emergency Services for the Ministry says "shelter" has kind of a broad definition when it comes to dealing with emergency situations. She says shelters can range from billets, to staying with friends and family.

For larger evacuations, the ministry has set up a variety of lodging options. Korney adds hotels and motels will also play a role when needed, so there is a good extensive list with all of those available in times of need as well.

The Red Cross will initially receive 105-thosuand-dollars from the provincial government to train enough volunteers for the network.
