Dry Conditions a Concern for Farmers South of Lloydminster

Communities just south of Lloydminster in Saskatchewan are probably going to avoid being swamped by spring run-off if current weather conditions hold steady. That may be great news for communities regularly hit by flooding but the dry weather is something farmers are concerned about as a little moisture helps with seeding. The lack of snowfall is something the provincial government's Agriculture Information Center is keeping an eye on. Cropping Management Specialist Grant McLean says the situation was starting to look bad when a lot of the stubble-fields and some perennial grasslands went into the fall in dry conditions. McClean that rain will be needed to maintain yields of stubble crops and hay and pasture lands. In fact, he adds the moisture situation is in the back of the minds of many producers as spring approaches.
