Weigh In #3, And The Time I Touched My Toes

When I woke up this morning, I had high hopes. See, we have a bathroom scale in our apartment, and I thought I'd try it out last night. Now this thing is clearly not to be trusted. It told me I was 300 when I was actually 297, and then it told me I was 300 again when I was down to 293, so I knew I wasn't going to be able to just jump on and know my actual weight. But what I did find promising was that it was no longer telling me I was 300. When I stepped on last night, it said I was 294. This could have been cause for concern (oh my God I gained a pound) but I just kept reminding myself that it was lower than it used to be, so that had to be good. So when I went to see Jenna today, I was in good spirits.

Alright, lets just get on the scale here...

It was good to feel like I was about to get good news too, because it was a tough weekend. Friday night I went out to a favorite food joint of mine in Lloyd, and had to watch everyone else eat the things I loved, and then on Sunday I went to visit friends out in Loon Lake, and they capped the night off with a BBQ that looked delicious. It's hard to keep reminding yourself that all the sacrifice is worth the results you get in the end, so when you see those results, it makes it feel worthwhile. Like going through 12 years of Social Studies, and then the final question on Jeopardy is about the Great Lakes, and you're all like "Hell yeah I know that Lake Superior is bigger than all the other Great Lakes combined!" and you bet really high, so you win and suddenly you're a super celebrity who gets all the girls... or something like that.

Awwwww yeeeaaaahhhh....

Anyway, the weigh in went well. Remember, when I started I weighed 297 pounds. After week 1, I was down to 293.9 pounds. I also started with 94.4 pounds of body fat, which dropped to 89.3 pounds. After 2 weeks of proper diet, and working out at Motion Fitness with Jenna, I'm now at 290.6 pounds, and 87.5 pounds of body fat, which is total losses of 6.4 and 6.9 pounds. In just 2 weeks. I'm .6 pounds away from being in the 280's for the first time in probably 5 years. It's amazing.

Now, sure, the losses aren't as big this week as they were after week 1, but I was prepared for that. With how surprised everyone at Motion was with my progress, I assumed that it didn't happen like that all the time. Also, while I might be fat, I'm not crazy fat, which means that I don't have as much to slough off. Still, for me, even just a couple pounds a week is incredible. And again, seeing the numbers helps so much. When I saw this week's weight, I wanted to get right out in to the gym and get back to work. I was already planning my next unscheduled gym day, so I could work even harder to keep those numbers coming down. I was so pumped up, I could have eaten a doorstop pancake right then and there.

Ok, maybe not...

It was another arm day in the gym today though, which is a great way to take the wind out of my sails. Today I did 15 pushups before I fell over, and Jenna and I celebrated a little bit because it was the most I'd done yet. How sad is that? 15 pushups? I could do 15 pushups when I was in grade 5 gym class. Of course, these days I'm pushing up about 4 grade 5 Dalbys, so it is a little different. Still, it sucks.

I have a bad habit of stopping when I feel like I can't do anymore reps during exercises, but Jenna has figured out how to stop it. If I stop for any reason less than full blown muscle fatigue, she just adds more reps on. I did still stop a few times, because I just had nothing left, but she has found a way to make me stop being such a wuss, at least a little. One drill I did though that kills me everytime is one that involves one of those giant exercise balls. You lie on the ball, with your feet planted against the wall, and lift your upper body up, while raising your arms over your head. Reading that again, I don't feel like I'm describing this miserable hell with the proper respect, but if you want the full meal deal, you can go see Jenna, and she can warp your spine the way she did mine.

Ignore the medical mumbo jumbo. That's how my back feels today.

Jenna decided, based on my general wimpitude, that some flexibility training was in order. When you don't move for 10 years, you tend to end up pretty stiff. So Christina, one of the other great folks at Motion Fitness, took over for the last part of my session. We did a lot of leg and back stretches, and by the end of it, I was able to touch my toes! I was 6'3" and too many pounds for a long time, so I don't see much of my toes, much less touch them. It was a pretty crazy feeling to be able to do that again. We wrapped up, and I mentioned that I was exhausted, so Christina suggested I use the steam room.

THEY HAVE A STEAM ROOM!

I had no idea. I was out of time, had to get back to work, but I'll tell you right now that on Thursday I will be spending some quality time in that room. If you've never had a chance to sweat out your toxins, you have to try it. It's like hitting reboot on your insides. I'll also be doing some more unscheduled cardio, and hopefully I'll finally get in for a class this week too.

Milestones and goals make this whole thing so much easier. What are some goals that you have, or milestones you've hit with your workout plan?
