Vacation Is Hard

So, I'm back from vacation, and, can I just say, thank God. It has been insanely difficult to stay on my diet plan without the everyday routine I got used to. It was so easy, wake up, make pancakes, go to work, eat a snack, eat lunch, go to the gym, protein shake, another snack, dinner when my wife gets home from her job, and sleep. But when my wife and I took time off to relax at home, suddenly I wasn't waking up until it was almost time to eat lunch! Instead of just going to the gym on my way home from work, I had to tear myself off the couch to go downtown. My whole routine was thrown off, and it was a fight just trying to stay on track. It's so much easier to just be fat and lazy on vacation than it is when you have a job.

I've got 400 channels to find a reason to just stay home today...

I'm back to work now though, and everything is falling back in to place again. My diet will be changing a little bit soon though, as Motion Fitness has a new Dietician named Heather, who is a huge asset for anyone looking to change up their eating habits. Seriously, she's one of 2 in Lloydminster, and if you go through the clinic, the waiting list is insane. So I'm working with Heather on some additions to my meal plan, which is nice, because even I'm getting a little tired of pretzels and peanut butter everyday as a snack.

I did manage to go in some of my days off though, and get in some gym time. I have really taken to the exercise bike now that my knees are getting a little stronger. The amount of calories you can burn on a bike is staggering, and it doesn't cripple me when I'm done. I'm still not quite ready to be riding with the Spin Class veterans or anything, but it's a start. I stick to the bike because the treadmill hurts my knees if I go too hard, and I'm still not comfortable on the eliptical. Not that it's bad, I just don't know what the hell I'm doing. Remember, all the machines are great, it's just a matter of figuring out which one works best for you. Or which one makes you look the coolest.

Remember, underwater treadmill is always the coolest.

I also had a chance to work on a new piece of equipment this Tuesday during my session with Jenna. It's called a TRX, and it's basically a series of bands you use to hold yourself up, and using your own body weight as resistance, you can do a variety of exercises. I was doing push ups, squats, flys, and this crazy hard hamstring exercise that I know was great because my legs felt like they might explode. If you get in to Motion, ask one of the trainers to show you how it works, because it's a real game changer.

It's way more fun if you call it T-Rex. Still painful, but fun.

We didn't have a weigh in today, so I'm afraid I have no news there. The wildly inaccurate bathroom scale said 275 at one point last week, but it doesn't say that anymore, so we'll just wait until Friday when I have my next session with Jenna and get a real weigh in. Also, starting on Friday, I get to share my pain! We'll be having different Goat staff members coming with me to work out, and get their thoughts on what it's like working with a personal trainer for the first time. Up first is Brad, our new Commercial Writer. We'll see if he can wield weights like he wields a pen. Until Friday though, remember, if you have any questions or comments, there's a box below just for you!
